KIC’s 4th Annual Rebuild Day took place Saturday, April 27, 2019, at All Dorchester Sports & Leadership in Dorchester. Over 20 associates, friends and family along with ADSL staff, youth and board members participated.
Both KIC and LFF were presented with a Certificate of Recognition by Khoa Pham, neighborhood services representative, from the Mayor of Boston’s Office, in acknowledgement of our dedication and participation in Rebuilding Day and contributions to ADSL.
KIC’s project work focused on the exterior of the building, included painting, planting and landscaping of the raised garden beds as well as custom-building two additional ones; landscaping/mulching of the grounds surrounding the building; painting all exterior doors and the “D” in the ADSL logo on the sides of the building to coordinate with the door color; and having door signage affixed to the main and gym entrances. Additionally, various windows throughout the building were repaired, replacing the broken balances allowing them to open and close more easily.
In the interior new flooring was installed in the Educational Resource Center and three free-standing workstations were installed in the main office, helping improve the collaborative working environment. A new TV was wall-mounted just inside the main entrance to be used as a digital bulletin board with glass panes replaced in the display cabinets below it. Additionally, all of the wall display case backings were secured. In the gym the columns were repainted, the exterior door and frame were replaced entirely, and a new entryway floor was installed. Lastly, all door locks were re-keyed to match.
Candice commented, “I continue to be overwhelmed at the kindness and generosity (and incredible organizational abilities!) of every single one of you. You are very special to ADSL – and you make a difference in the way we are able to deliver great programs to our kids and community. Endless gratitude to all of you. –the Staff and Board of ADSL”
We thank KIC’s caring and skilled team of Maintenance Managers—without them this day would not be possible—along with our vendors for their contributions: Archer Lock, Boston City Scapes, Driscoll Electric, MPG Promotions, Nieshoff Designs, Olsen Images, Strategic Spaces and Wilder Painting.
KIC’s Rebuild Day projects are in line with the Lewis Family Foundation’s mission to build strong communities and support youth in the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan (DRM).
