Sara Amiro Jones, Manager, Legal Affairs, has been named the 2018 recipient of the Jim O’Brien Leadership Award. Since 2015, this award has recognized an employee who willingly shares with his or her colleagues to help them grow and develop, and challenges team members to take one more step than they thought they could. According to Robert L. Murray, KIC Vice President & General Counsel, “At some point, most of us have sought out Sara’s help. And she likely responded right away and knew just what you should do.”
Sara joined Kensington Investment Company in May 2005 and was promoted to Manager, Legal Affairs in October 2007. In her current role, she provides all in-house paralegal services and manages all administrative matters of the Legal Department. Murray points out that Sara’s contributions are company-wide. “Whether it’s Grand Circle restating its credit facility or buying a new ship; KIC acquiring or refinancing real estate; or Grand Circle Foundation or LFF North making a filing or registering a new trademark, Sara is involved. With Grand Circle tours in close to 100 countries and offices in over 30, Sara has played an escalating role in responding to the regions’ demands and supporting their requests.”
This award was created to honor Jim O’Brien, KIC Vice Chairman, a lifelong leader, and leadership is a hallmark of Sara’s work. Sara has led the KIC Rebuild Day for all 3 years and took the lead in transitioning from a shared Rebuild Day with Grand Circle Travel to KIC having its own event for a bigger impact. Murray notes, “This was a great example of using judgment to make hard decisions and offering a way to make something better, but also providing not just the idea but the leadership and hard work to see it through.”
“Despite such a varied workload, you never have to ask her twice to do something,” says Murray. “Day or night, she just gets the job done and shows us what teamwork really means.” We congratulate Sara for her well-deserved honor.
