Roxbury native, artist, and Assistant Director of MassArt’s Center for Art and Community Partnerships Ekua Holmes recently launched The Roxbury Sunflower Project. A project aimed at bringing beauty, and color to Roxbury through community sun-flower planting. With the help of community leaders and volunteers throughout the Roxbury area, Ekua set out to plant at least 1,000 new sunflowers throughout the city she proudly calls home!
Melissa Williams of the KIC family heard of this initiative and immediately organized a group of volunteers to join the movement! With her fellow KIC teammates and The Lewis Family Foundation’s 2018 class of Next Generation Leaders by her side they set off to help spread the messages of strength, radiance, and resilience. Together they planted sunflowers in front of our two recently acquired Townsend St. properties.
