Over 30 Kensington Investment Company associates and family members participated in our 3rd Annual Rebuild Day at All Dorchester Sports & Leadership (ADSL) on April 28. In keeping with National Volunteer week and Grand Circle’s 24th annual Rebuilding Day, KIC joined hundreds of volunteers in Boston and thousands of volunteers in service projects across the country.
Working alongside ADSL staff and youth, our small army of KIC volunteers transformed the interior of the ADSL building, painting all of the first-floor interior walls. Our own Andrew Williams and Jose Espada custom-made and installed a cubbie storage system for the Educational Resource Center (“ERC”), where ADSL youth may store backpacks, cleats, and other personal belongings.
All new flooring and a new kitchenette were installed in “The Manny Room,” the multi-use space where Fit Kitchen classes and board, staff, and community meetings are held. The Manny Room is named after Firefighter Lieutenant Manuel Del Valle Jr., who gave his life saving others at the Twin Towers on September 11th. KIC presented Manny’s father, ADSL Board President Peter Moyer, a plaque celebrating his son’s life and installed the tribute during Rebuild Day.
Co-led by KIC’s Sara Amiro Jones and Chico Corchado, the success of the event was made possible by numerous vendors, colleagues, and friends, including Franklin Sports, Driscoll Electric, Nieshoff Design, Olsen Images, and Wilder Painting. All of KIC’s Rebuild Day projects are in line with the Lewis Family Foundation’s mission to build strong communities and support youth in the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan (DRM).
ADSL shared the results on their Instagram page, writing, “We are so thankful for today’s day of service with the Lewis Family Foundation and Kensington Investment Company! Thank you so much for all your hard work, donations, and support! #AllOnTheSameTeam ”
