Joining thousands of volunteers in service projects across the country for National Volunteer Week, Kensington Investment Company (KIC) associates gathered at Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester on April 29 for KIC Rebuild Day. In partnership with Bigger Than My Block (a Lewis Family Foundation initiative), KIC associates transformed the high school’s former media room into a dedicated college preparatory lounge for students.
Grand Circle Associates have committed over 20 years to Rebuilding day, originally named “Christmas in April.” This was KIC’s second Rebuild project and one which they spearheaded themselves start to finish. Some of the work KIC performed included painting interior walls, installing an inspirational mural, repurposing tables as countertop work areas, and adding additional carpet and seating. Kurt Therrien, Kensington Executive Vice President for Real Estate, described this year’s result as the, “Best rebuilding I have been to yet!”
The 2017 Rebuild site, Jeremiah E. Burke High School, was the recipient of the Lewis Family Foundation’s Fall 2016 Associates Fund Grant. The Associates Fund provides grants to support-community based organizations who serve young people in the Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan neighborhoods. KIC is proud to continuing making a difference in the lives of Boston students, putting into action a motto from the new mural: “We are the change that we seek.”
