On Saturday, April 30, 2016, 25+ of The Kensington Investment Company, Inc.’s (“KIC”) associates, family members and friends participated in Rebuilding Together Boston’s (“RTB”) National Rebuilding Day event. Rebuilding Together is the nation’s largest volunteer organization whose mission is to transform the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing their communities. KIC was involved in one of six projects in the repair of homes or non-profit facilities throughout the city of Boston joining thousands of volunteers renovating project sites across America.
This was KIC’s 1st year participating in RTB joining forces with Grand Circle Corporation (“GCC”) who celebrated their 21st year by providing services to the Nazareth Residence in Roxbury. The Nazareth Residence provides an opportunity for homeless parents and their children, many of whom are also dealing with medical issues, to rebuild their lives as they transition to permanent housing.
KIC’s project site was a home in Hyde Park owned by Ms. Smith who while living in the home for 38 years raised three daughters and a son and became unable to afford to keep up with critical repairs to her home due to financial, health and other related constraints. Some of the work KIC performed included painting interior walls, ceilings and radiator covers, landscaping the front and back yards, safety repairs to the bathroom and renovating the kitchen with new cabinetry leaving the home in better and safer condition than we found it.
It was truly a fulfilling day led by Sara A. Jones and Kelly Coates, House Captains. “All of the volunteers worked well together as ONE team and supported each other. There was great morale, professionalism and patience displayed. Thank you to all who volunteered their time, efforts and expertise. We would like to give special recognition to the extra efforts of our KIC Maintenance Technicians, without them this day could not have happened.”
RTB, sponsored by Grand Circle Foundation, Inc. (“GCF”), is one of 48 community service opportunities held throughout the year drawing the largest amount of associate participation.
